Principles

A new generation, on its own terms

The generation that grew up in an independent Ukraine is capable of building it — without waiting for permission, and without picking up the habits of those it set out to replace.

Start with yourself, and with your own town

We started in Pereiaslav and we are still here. Change you can actually see is made where you live.

Bring together, do not divide

The academic, creative and entrepreneurial forces of a community are stronger together. Our job is to bring them into one room.

An education worth having

We are for a profession, not a diploma. That is why we run two projects — the conferences and the magazine — that give a young person both a platform and a test.

Everyone in their right place

A person should feel needed by their community, and a community should feel it needs every person.

Young people at the table where decisions are made

Youth advisory bodies at every level of government are a working instrument, not decoration.

History

2004

Founded in Pereiaslav. Artem Faizullin elected first chair. First grant — €400 under the Centre for Political Education programme “Youth in Elections”; the first NGO in town to receive donor funding.

2005

The Student Council project at Hryhorii Skovoroda University. The student newspaper S.M.S, whose first editor came from the association.

2006

A conference on youth self-government attended by the mayor and the university rector. That summer — a catamaran built from collected plastic bottles and a voyage across the Kaniv Reservoir.

2007

A children’s sports ground at School No. 2, funded by the Klitschko Brothers Foundation.

2008

Yurii Bobrovnik elected chair. An $11,000 grant from the International Renaissance Foundation — PROMOBudget, a tool for public monitoring of local budgets.

2009

28–30 April — the first online conference. The weekly newspaper Novyi Pohliad, 17 issues. A boxing gym at the university worth UAH 250,000, opened in person by Wladimir Klitschko. A memorandum with the Kyiv Student Council.

2010

The university’s Office for Educational Initiatives, Professional Development and Careers established.

2011

A campaign against open waste burning. The March of Homeless Youth in Kyiv. An international student forum in Pereiaslav.

Since

The conferences have not missed a year: over 120 editions since 2009, with thousands of participants.
